Top End Orienteers

Four courses on offer around the iconic Florence falls and Buley rock hole area in Litchfield National Park. Be aware there are not many tracks, and participants need to use a variety of navigational skills.
On all courses participants need to be able to follow linear features including paths/tracks, roads and watercourses.
On the Moderate and Hard courses the following skills are needed:
distance estimation (know how to measure how far you have come)
direction (know how to take a bearing, even if it's just using the sun)
use of catching features (know what you will see if you have gone too far),
attack points (breaking the leg down into parts, moving between key obvious features along the way), and
understanding contours and following gullies and spurs

Participants on the Long Hard course cross Florence Creek and should expect wet feet. Other courses do not cross the creek.

Clothes comfortable for exercising in the heat, water bottles with water, snacks for on longer courses, cash for event fees and drink after (Epayments don't often work in Litchfield due to poor phone reception), change of clothes for swimming.

Coaching

Coaching is available between 7:30 am and 8:30 am

Afterwards

Socialise and swim, including in the creek next to the picnic area.

Directions

The start is upstream above Florence Falls, at a creek-side picnic area below the small carpark before the main Florence carpark. An orienteering sign will point from the road into the small carpark. From there, take the footpath down to the creek.
