DIY orienteering
TEO offers free, permanent DIY orienteering courses in both urban parks and bushland across the Northern Territory. It is a fun way to combine outdoor adventure with map reading and navigation skills. There are several courses on offer at each location clearly marked with permanently placed metal markers.
All our permanent courses are suitable for newcomers to orienteering, right through to experienced orienteers. Course difficulty ranges from beginner to intermediate skill level. You can walk or jog the courses and most locations have a pram friendly option.
Permanent courses allow you to do an orienteering course at a time and pace that suits you, and you can do the courses as many times as you like! You can complete the course as an individual or a group. The courses are also suitable for school and community groups. To participate all you need to do is register and download a map (or view it on your smartphone/tablet).
A list of current locations is available from the link below and we're adding new locations all the time. The instructions page will help you get underway. A compass is not necessary but may be useful.
